by Administrator7. September 2018 15:113M Company has recently created a new version of its glass bubble technology that could help cut the weight of sheet-molded composites by up to 40%. These new S32HS glass bubbles are created from soda-lime borosilicate glass and are an added ingredient, to take the place of the polymer or filler material that is used in typical sheet-molded composites. 3M’s glass bubbles are so small, measuring a remarkable 25 μm in diameter, that tens of thousands of them are often used in these sheet-molded composites. Furthermore, 3M’s new S32HS glass bubbles and their extreme weight reduction are groundbreaking for molders, by making sheet-molded composites more relevant and more interesting, opening the possibility of numerous new applications.
